Becoming an Online Affiliate Marketer
Online merchants who want to increase the exposure of their products enlist the support of affiliates.
These affiliates promote the merchant's product or services on their own websites, as if they were their own. In return, the merchant
will pay a commission on each sale to the affiliate. The marketing affiliate has no requirement to hold stock, despatch it, or do any invoicing
whatsoever.
Once the visitor to the affiliate's site makes the commitment to buy, the entire transaction is completed by the merchant, including payment
of the agreed commission to their new business partner - the affiliate. Affiliate marketing is a win-win arrangement for both the merchants and
their affiliates. The merchant sells more products, and shares his profits will the people who are actively promoting them.
Many merchants have affiliate programs that ensure future sales from the affiliate's referred customer will result in further commission to
the affiliate, even if it was a direct sale. The customer's file is embedded with the affiliate's details. Almost anyone with a computer with
connection to the internet can become an affiliate marketer.
Stay at home moms and dads, retirees, kids, college students, even the disabled are establishing nice home-based businesses with clever
affiliate marketing. Look closely at the websites that you visit often, look for the words "affiliates", "partners", "affiliate program", or
similar.
These will often be on the page footer. Click on the link to see what they are offering in terms of commissions and payment method. All
merchants will supply their affiliates with at least a link to include on their web page.
This will contain the affiliates details to streamline the commission payments process. Many will actually provide the html code to copy and
paste onto your website to produce one of their read-made advertisements, again, embedded with the affiliates details. The successful affiliates
are those who have invested time in learning about the process (it isn't rocket science), and more importantly looking very closely at the
products they wish to market.
By focusing on topics that are of particular interest to them, they are able to promote them with confidence. Parents with kids might look for
children's products - books, clothes, toys etc - to market; pet lovers could focus on pet supplies, and so on. Being able to write with some
obvious expertise will increase the credibility of the affiliate marketer. If setting up your own affiliate marketing business sounds daunting,
enlist the help of some professionals.
There are some very polished companies, like Wealthy Affiliates, who are specialising in online affiliate marketing programs and training.
They even include a very user-friendly website building program in their program - and it costs just $1 per day for membership (paid monthly).
